Ecology: vulnerable by the IUCN, because of habitat loss.
ZooologyTremarctos ornatus is a clever, arboreal animal that builds platforms and nests in trees for eating and sleeping. They grow 1.5 to 2 meters and weigh 90 to 280 kiolgrams. Many live between 2000 and 300 meters above sea level, although others inhabit lower elevations.
Fruits and bromeliads are favored foods, but spectacled bears also eat berries, grasses, bulbs, cactus flowers and small animals such as rodents, rabbits and birds; travels alone. Spectacled bears are the least dangerous bear compared to other bear species. They are shy, elusive mammals and non-territorial.
