Abstract: An outbreak of intoxication by Metternichia princepsem caprinos is described in the State of Bahia. Of eight goats, three died, of which two were necropsied; five did not fall ill. The main clinical signs were nasal mucosa secretion, weight loss, diarrhoea, apathy, mild weakness, staggering gait, flexion of the thoracic and pelvic limbs, sternum-abdominal decubitus and lateral decubitus, followed by death after approximately two days of clinical evolution. At necropsy, pulmonary oedema, hydrothorax, hydropericardium, ascites, pale kidneys, perirenal edema and hemorrhages in the subcutaneous tissue were observed. Microscopically in the kidneys there was marked necrosis of coagulation of the tubular epithelium and tubules with regeneration of the epithelium. There was marked congestion in the lung associated with interalveolar and interseptal edema. In blood biochemistry there was an increase in urea, creatinine and creatinine phosphokinase.
