Region: Europe.
Habitat: amongst rocks and stones; cooler regions, usually on siliceous soils; prefers well-drained gritty soil; prefers full sun; succeeds in any sandy soil, doing well in very little soil in rock crevices, walls, paths etcetera, so long as there is sufficient humus, acid rocks, though it also succeeds on calcareous ones; drought tolerant; strongly dislikes winter wet; not very tolerant of weed competition.
Use: medicine.
BotanyHerb; evergreen; perennial; 10 cm tall; polymorphic.
Inflorescences: individual rosettes die after blooming, but produce a number of offsets that continue to grow.
Pollination: by insects.
