Region: Southeast Asia - Malaysia, Indonesia.
Habitat: undisturbed mixed dipterocarp forests; elevations up to 500 metres; on hillsides and ridges with sandy soils; in secondary forests as a pre-disturbance remnant tree.
Content: oleo-resin; tannins, steroids; terpenes.
Use: timber, for construction.
BotanyUpper canopy tree; up to 41 metres tall.
Stem: buttressed; up to 130 cm in diameter; wood yellowish-white, scented, very hard, medium-grained, durable; bark is aromatic with a smell like balsam.
