Region: south America, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyanas.
Habitat: canopy tree in forests; humid situations; elevations up to 135 metres.
Content: latex, caoutchouc form bark and sapwood
Use: fruit for food; medicine; wood for general carpentry, interior work, furniture, door and window stock, concrete forms, matchboxes, box manufacture, plywood.
BotanyTree with a spreading crown; 33 metres tall.
Stem: straight, cylindrical; 1 m in diameter; clear of branches for up to four-fifths the entire height; heartwood is chocolate brown, clearly demarcated from the pinkish brown sapwood; heartwood is dull white to pale cream or pinkish, grain is straight or irregular, texture moderately fine to medium; the seasoned wood is odourless and tasteless; wood is moderately hard and firm, durable or not at all durable, easy to cut, smooth polish.
Fruit: large, green; yellowish pulp, agreeable flavour
