Family
English: Pinkheart; Bonewood.
Name: Medicosma is from the Latin, referring to the citrus lemon scent of the leaves.
Region: eastern Australia, central-eastern Queensland, New South Wales.
Habitat: rainforest; from sea level to an altitude of 500 m.
Use: ornamental, dense form, good screening plant.
BotanyShrub or small tree; 10 to 20 m; young growth with a few star-shaped hairs.
Leaves: simple; dull green; narrow oblong to lance-shaped; narrower end towards the base; with many small oil dots; 4 to 23 cm long, 1 to 7 cm wide; petiole 5 to 20 mm long.
Inflorescence: flowers in small groups; 1 to 9 cm long.
Flowers: small; white or cream-coloured; pedicel 2 to 12 mm long; sepals, with soft hairs on the outside; 3 to 5 mm long; petals white or cream-coloured, 9 to 17 mm long, softly-hairy at least on the back, remain on the fruit, about 20 mm; flowering from November to June.
Fruit is 5 to 7 mm long; hidden by petal remnants.
