English: Bay bolete; Bay-cap; Chestnut-coloured cap.
Region: Europe, North America.
Habitat: coniferous or mixed woods, on the ground, on decaying tree stumps.
Use: edible.
MycologyPored mushroom; can bioaccumulate trace metals from the soil, such as mercury, cobalt, nickel, radioactive caesium.
Cap: almost spherical when young, broadening and flattening out when older; pores small, yellowish, turning dull blue-grey when bruised.
Stipe: smooth, cylindrical, coloured paler than cap.
Use: edible.
