Name: after Rómulo and Numa Escobar.
Genus: 23 species.
Region: south Canada to northern Mexico.
Taxonomy: close to Coryphantha, Mammillaria; 2 species were recently moved to Acharagma.
Botany: low-growing cactus; stems globose to cylindrical, lack nectar-secreting glands, ribs absent, tubercles present, tending to become corky and deciduous as they age; flowers in spring, variety of colors; fruits red; seeds deeply pitted.
