English: Texas bergia.
Region: western and central United States, northern Mexico.
Habitat: wetlands, in mud and moist soils along the edges of rivers and pools.
Botany
Annual or perennial herb.
Stem: branching, glandular, hairy, upright; up to 30 centimeters long.
Leaves: oval, pointed, lightly toothed edges; 2 to 4 centimeters long.
Inflorescence: at the tips of stem, branches and in the leaf axils, bearing single flowers or small clusters.
Flower: small; five green sepals, five greenish white petals; some open, others are cleistogamous, remaining closed and self-pollinating.
Fruit: oval capsule; many seeds in each of its five chambers.
