The birth process is an important event in one's life. In homeopathy that process is strongly connected with the carbon series. Each of the eight elements of the carbon series are connected with a certain stage of the birth process. Problems in that stage can be remedied with the corresponding element or its compounds. These problems can also foreshadow processes of illness and later life. The problem in the birth process can then be seen as an early symptom of the later disease. We can say that the birth process is a reflection of the process of personablity development in childhood.
Lithium
Lithium stands for the beginning. Problems with the start of the birth process belong to Lithium. The birth may start too early, prematurely, or it may start too late, postmaturity. Apparent beginnings of the birth process can also indicate lithium. The birth appears to start and then stops again.
BerylliumThe second stage, Beryllium, represents the positioning of the baby. Left-handed abnormalities are an indication of Beryllium, such as breech presentation, transverse presentation, forehead presentation and so on.
BoronWith Boron we see problems with dilation. The cervix may not close properly and a cerclage may be required. The mother then usually has the feeling that the baby could fall out of the womb, similar to the symptom of fear of falling down. Borium's sensitivity to sound may also be related to an open cervix, as the sounds then reach the baby much more strongly than when they are muffled by the mother's tissues.
The reverse variant is that the cervix does not open at birth. The birth process is delayed.
GraphitesCarbon and its compounds are linked to the birthing process itself, the contractions to expel the baby. Contractions that are too weak are a manifestation of this. But also the opposite, too strong, painful or too fast following contractions indicate Carbon. More generally, it is associated with very strong pains,
both in the uterus and continuing in the pelvis and back.
NitrogenNitrogen is associated with expulsion through the birth canal. If this does not go well, the child may get stuck and the birth process stops. This may be due to an incorrect position, such as a shoulder distortion. It may also be a consequence of the mother having a large child compared to a small vessel.
Here we see the well-known symptoms of Nitrogenium: fear of tight spaces and need for an exit.
OxygeniumOxygenium is linked to the onset of breathing after birth. It is indicated in blue babies.
It is the theme of Oxygenium: the feeling of deficiency.
FluorineFluorine is associated with disconnection from the mother. The connection to the mother through the umbilical cord and the placenta are part of this. Possible problems are that the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck or other parts of the body. The umbilical cord may be short. The placenta may be too small or not detachable after birth, placenta accreta.
We see here the general theme of Fluor: letting go.
