Genus: 8 species.
Region: Himalaya, China, India, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia, New Guinea, Queensland.
Botany: herb, primitive orchid, terrestrial; inflorescence erect, with six lateral branches, arising from the main, elongated root; tubercles warty, swollen, stalked, lack velamen, with 30 white or yellow flowers; flowers non-resupinate, not turned upside down; stamens 2, fertile, abaxial; anthers 2-3 abaxial; lack a staminode.
Taxonomy: Apostasia and Neuwiedia are soemtimes placed outside Orchidaceae; but differences between Apostasiaceae and outgroups are larger than with all other orchids.
