Lac caprinum

Year 2026, Issue 3, Article 3CaseAuthor: Tomas Vyboch
He suffers from headaches 3–5 times a week. He feels mentally overloaded — waking up early to catch the train to the police academy and living in a dormitory without privacy is exhausting for his introverted nature.
At school, the demands are high, and he develops depression and anxiety. Surrounded by stronger, more muscular boys, he feels weak and inferior. He says he was always a depressed child, but it was manageable. He is very aware that the reason he works so intensely is a feeling of insecurity. He wants to reach the level of the other boys to be more confident. He is the youngest of the group. He had not worked out before, but the others had, and it was visible.
To prove himself, he trains intensely, pushing his body until he burns out. He says that even when he reaches their level, the price is high — exhaustion, insomnia, panic attacks, and emotional collapse.
Previously, he wanted to prove something at any cost and aimed to be the best. Now, he just wants to enjoy life, be useful, have a meaningful job, and help people. He used to be obsessed with success, regardless of what it was.
That ambition comes from being the class “freak” whom everyone made fun of. He developed an inferiority complex and felt he couldn’t fit in with others. It hurt him, and he often felt he wasn’t enough. He felt the need to keep proving to himself that he was worthy.
When others rejected him, he blamed himself and thought something was wrong with him. He compensates for his insecurity by building muscles. He explains that if someone is different or has an average figure, they are an easy target for bullying, but a muscular body deters others. The body becomes like a shield, a pose. He may look strong, but the boy underneath remains the same.
